Holy
Jeff reincarnated
For
more than 20 years Canadian guitarist/composer Jeff 'The Pilot'
Ulmer has held the trophy for Slowest Album releaser. The
founder and kingpin of the cult band Sacred Blade is the spiritual
father of Of the Sun + Moon (released in 1986), an
album full of brilliantly played spacey power metal, with
lyrics based on a mystical science fiction concept. This obscure
classic had everything to make Sacred Blade break through
from the metal underground. However, due to his perfectionism,
Ulmer never released more than a few demo tapes after this
genial debut album. These appeared, together with the complete
OTS+M on the bootleg CD Seven Moonz Of Xercez released
in 1992.
From
time to time the slightly eccentric centipede announced in
spare interviews that he was busy building a studio and writing
new songs, but that was all. Until recently. First the miracle
guitarist released his masterpiece on his own label, then
he re-recorded Of The Sun and added three new musical creations.
On The Night Of Day Ulmer shows he hasnŐt lost any
of his genius. Thanks to the re-drastic arrangements, the
ÔspaciousŐ sounding superb production, and the refined mix,
the neo-psychedelic aspect of his music is represented even
better than before. Where UlmerŐs almost serene vocals have
become a bit more raw than before, his unique guitar playing
has become even more flowing than before and shines both
in the old and new masterpieces. Adding to this the monumental closing track
Moon, with its dreamlike guitar harmonies, has reached an out-of-this world
beauty. This sophisticated and stylish designed release can be ordered directly
from the Holy Jeff at www.othyrworld.com.
Essential.
