OTHYRWORLD
- Beyond Into the Night of Day
#16 - 2007 - Snakepit Magazine (France) - Review by Laurent

Valuation
grade: 9 / 10
I doubt that anybody who is a fervent Snakepit reader is
not also a fan of that legendary (yeah they deserve this
tag!) band known as SACRED BLADE who did receive proper coverage
a couple years ago in this mag and OTHYRWORLD is nothing but the
name chosen by mainman/ guitarist/ singer Jeff Ulmer to be used for
his latest album project. So needless to say that a particular excitement
invaded quickly my mind when I heard about this as the guy never
disappointed me since the first days I got introduced to his music
back in ’83.
“Beyond…” appears
to be nothing but for the biggest part a compilation of S.B. songs entirely
re-recorded and slightly re-arranged. The result is nothing but phenomenal
as this classic material maybe never sounded as powerful and driving
as it appears here from the intro “Ayltuthus” thru power
ragers like “Fieldz The Sunshrine”, “The Pressing”, “Of
The Sun…” or the mighty “Legacy”! Jeff’s
guitarwork is flawless and each chord delivered by the man just hit the
right place and never sound false, happy or simply boring… killer!
His old partner on drums, Ted Zawadzki is of course part of the project
and propel the songs the way they should be.
There’s a couple of
unrealised songs which displays the usual talent expected from Mr Ulmer
but out of those four tunes never heard before, “Right Ascension” comes
out as the strongest BY FAR!!!! I would simply call this one as one of
the finest Power Metal tune ever delivered as the finesse, intensity
and precision delivered here is just KILLER! This is the type of songs
a bunch of bands (and people) should listen to to remember how Metal
should always sound like without sounding arrogant. Needless to add more
blah blah, “Beyond” is more than just a re-release of the
classic “Of The Sun And Moon” album, it’s certainly
a recording that sounds closer to what Jeff wanted in the first place
when they were recording that long awaited first album during the ‘80s.
And just for “Right Ascension” it’s a must to buy!
